Seriously, thats Bullsh!t. That’s such a stupid rule. It makes men (and we all know it’s mainly men that get nailed for stautory “rape”) who may be having sex with a willing partner on the same level as the priests who rape young children.
For example, I was 16 and dating an 18 year old, and we had sex consensually. But he could’ve been classified as a rapist because my saying yes doesn’t matter to the legal system.
While I think the statutory rape laws are there for a reason, they need to be more reasonable.

Its not “we had sex consensually” because legally you cannot consent. You can’t agree to that if you are 16, So Its rape. The laws are there because the lawmakers decided if you are young, you do not have the legal capacity to agree to sex and decided 16 was the age for that. Keep it in your pants until then.

People under 18 (and many over 18) are not mentally mature enough to consent to sex or it’s consequences such as pregnancy and STDs. Therefore the law is in place to protect them because they’re too immature to know better.

It’s one thing if say someone my age (33) was to get involved with a man in his 60s as I’ve had enough time to grow up, be more mentally and emotionally mature. But a grown man (or woman) has no business being with someone under 18.

If you really love them, then you wait until they’re legal and even then preferably wait until they’re at least 25 so they’ve had a chance to grow up some.

The word you’re looking for is ephebophile, not like it really matters since you’re pretty much an idiot. Mental maturity has nothing to do with sex whatsoever and definitely not pregnancy or STDs. The only reason a minor is incapable of handling the responsibility of raising a child is that it is nearly impossible for them to get a job and thereby get money to raise said child. As for STDs, considering it is impossible to catch one where none existed before and most of the 15-16 year olds who are fucking do not have them, so they cannot catch them unless they were BORN with them, which says all kinds of fucked up things about their parents. And even then, we have a little invention these days called the birth control pill and the condom designed with the sole purpose to prevent these things (well, thing in the case of the pill).

Oh, and just FYI: the majority age of consent in the U.S. is 16, which is the AOC in 29 states. In fact, there are only 31 countries in the entire world where the law requires a person to be 18 or older to consent to sex. The majority across the world is anywhere from 12-16, therefore, your argument is invalid.
